'World Molder' - Xbox Live Indie Games Showcase

A sort of Play-Doh in video game form, "World Molder" is a platformer where you make the platforms. The basic scenario in every level is the same: Find the key and get to the door by jumping from platform to platform. But the unique spin of "World Molder" is that your adorable li'l dark wizard character can raise his arms to enter Mold Mode, where the whole world is turned into a mesh of flex points that you can manipulate.

If all video games are basically power fantasies, "World Molder" takes that to the ultimate extreme---it's inordinately satisfying to be able to reshape the level itself, and anyone who's ever played with 3-D design software will appreciate the joke of making flex points into a gameplay element. Difficulty is preserved through complicated level layouts, and a time-completed high score board that mocks your ponderous efforts.

The level design often slides from "tricky" to "irritating", and the production values are profoundly low---someone really should've found a voice actor who doesn't wear a retainer, and explained the concept of "texture" to the art designer. But the originality of the concept makes it well worth a try, and the entertainment value of waggling your fingers and turning the world into clay is pretty immense.
